The world of e-commerce is constantly evolving, and Amazon’s Home & Kitchen category is no exception. Vumonic Datalabs analysed this category for April to September 2023 which provided valuable insights. Let's dive into what makes this category a significant contributor to Amazon's success story.
In the six-month span analysed, the Home & Kitchen category represented a substantial 15% of Amazon's total sales. A closer look at the monthly breakdown reveals fascinating trends. August emerged as the top-performing month, contributing 25% of the category's total sales. This spike aligns with Amazon’s Great Freedom Festival Sale, underscoring the impact of strategic sales events on consumer buying patterns. Similarly, May also saw a significant surge, accounting for 18% of sales, due to Amazon Summer Sale.
The average order value in the Home & Kitchen category stood at around 1900 INR. This figure suggests a healthy balance between high-ticket items and more affordable options, catering to a diverse range of customers. Moreover, the average discount offered was around 130 INR, a testament to Amazon's strategy of competitive pricing without significantly undercutting product value. 80% of the products sold were priced under 2000 INR, explaining the relatively modest AOV.
Leading the charge in brand popularity were household names like Samsung, LG, Panasonic, Whirlpool, and Philips. Their dominance in the market is a clear indicator of consumer trust and preference for established brands.
The most revenue generating products included air conditioners, refrigerators, water filters, purifiers, washing machines, and ceiling fans – essential items that reflect the needs and lifestyle changes of modern consumers. Some of the products were Samsung Refrigerator, LG Washing Machine, Whirlpool Refrigerator, and Panasonic AC.
The balance of sales across various months, influenced by strategic sales events, and the popularity of certain brands and products, offers insights of broader market trends and consumer behaviours. As we continue to navigate through 2024, it will be intriguing to see how this category adapts and grows in response to changing consumer needs and global market dynamics.
