Diwali Sale's performance, AOV & Average discounts on Flipkart from 2020 to 2022

The festival of lights, Diwali, brings with it an air of festivity and joy, marked by the age-old tradition of exchanging gifts and indulging in retail therapy for our beloved ones. In this blog, Vumonic Datalabs analysed Diwali sales on Flipkart from 2020 to 2022.

Flipkart's Diwali Sale Performance

The 2021 Diwali sales witnessed a surge of 15% increase compared to the preceding year. One striking trend that emerged was the dominance of electronics as some of the top products purchased during the Diwali sales.

Intriguingly, the average discount per order during the 2022 Diwali sale was approximately 180 INR, almost 1.4 times higher than 2021 and nearly 1.8 times higher than 2020. From a financial perspective, the average order value held steady across all three years at around 3000 INR, providing valuable insights into the typical spending patterns of Diwali shoppers.

Throughout the three years under scrutiny, brands like Realme, Boat, Poco, Mi and Samsung have consistently maintained their presence as some of the top choices among consumers.

As we anticipate future Diwali celebrations, it will be fascinating to observe how consumer behaviour continues to evolve. Will the dominance of electronics persist, or will there be a resurgence of interest in traditional gift items? Will shoppers continue to exhibit a preference for specific brands, or will new contenders emerge?
