Chennai shows the sharpest change in Q1 2026. Zomato's AOV there dropped from INR 384 to INR 344, a INR 40 fall. Its frequency dropped too, from 3.40 orders per active user per month to 3.23. Swiggy moved the opposite way in the same city: frequency rose from 3.44 to 3.70. A year ago the two platforms were ordering at almost identical rates in Chennai. By Q1 2026, Swiggy's users there ordered 0.47 more times per month than Zomato's.
Bangalore tells a quieter but equally specific story. Zomato's Bangalore repeat rate reached 72.77% in Q1 2026, the highest of any platform-city combination in this dataset. Its frequency there rose from 3.95 to 4.19, overtaking Swiggy's 4.05. Bangalore is where Zomato's retained users are the most active anywhere in this data.
Mumbai's defining shift is on AOV. Zomato led Swiggy on basket size in Q1 2025 by INR 10, INR 418 against INR 408. By Q1 2026 that reversed: Swiggy at INR 420, Zomato at INR 403. A INR 25 swing in a single year is the kind of number a chain pricing across both apps needs to know before setting menu prices for Q2.
The chain data sharpens the picture further. Meghana Foods leads both platforms in Bangalore. McDonald's leads both in Mumbai. Chennai is where the two platforms genuinely diverge on what people order: Sangeetha Veg Restaurant and A2B Adyar Ananda Bhavan hold the top two spots on Swiggy, while KFC leads Zomato's Chennai list, with Sangeetha second.
Zomato holds a consistent repeat rate advantage across all three cities, 72.77% in Bangalore, 66.69% in Mumbai, 65.93% in Chennai, all ahead of Swiggy's equivalent figures. But Chennai shows that a strong repeat rate doesn't guarantee strong frequency or pricing. The users Zomato retained there ordered less often and spent less per order than they did a year ago. For a QSR operator setting city-level strategy for Q2 2026, Bangalore's frequency story and Chennai's pricing divergence are the two numbers worth building a plan around.
