Measured against the two weeks before each sale, Flipkart's Freedom Sale lifted daily orders by 46.6% this year. Last year the same sale managed 30.5%. Amazon's Great Freedom Sale moved from a 12.7% lift in 2025 to 22.9% in 2026.
Both sales ran about a week later than last year, starting August 7 rather than July 31. Both pulled more relative to a normal day.

The shape of the two sales was different. Flipkart front-loaded almost everything. Its biggest day was August 8, the first full day of the sale, at 1.97 times a normal day. By the fourth day it had fallen back to 1.4 times, and by day eight it was barely above baseline. Amazon built slowly instead, peaking on August 10, the fourth day, at 1.37 times, and held above 1.25 times for six straight days.
Independence Day itself was the weakest day of Amazon's sale window, running roughly level with a normal day. Flipkart saw a small second bump on August 15 and 16 before dropping back below its pre-sale average from August 17.
What people bought during the sale differed by platform too. On Flipkart the share of orders going to home appliances rose from 1.92% to 3.36%, mobiles from 7.22% to 8.55%, and kitchen and dining from 4.25% to 5.24%. The big-ticket categories did what sale categories are supposed to do. Amazon's mix barely moved. Its largest gain was greeting and celebration supplies, up from 1.70% to 2.68% of orders.
That category tells the most interesting story in the data. It more than doubled on Flipkart too, from 0.49% to 1.25%. More than half of its orders during the sale window were rakhis. Tricolour flags barely registered. Raksha Bandhan fell on August 28, and the sale caught the early wave of it. About one in five e-commerce rakhi orders landed inside the sale window, with the bulk following in the week before the festival.
For a brand planning next year's August calendar, the practical read is that the sale is really two occasions stacked together. Big-ticket electronics and appliances win the first three days on Flipkart. Gifting categories rise across the whole window too, pulled forward by a festival still two weeks away.
