Burger and QSR held at 10.70% of Swiggy orders in Q1 2026, up 0.20 pp. On Zomato it fell 1.21 pp to 7.92%. The same cuisine, the same quarter, moving in opposite directions on the two platforms.
Pizza contracted on both. Swiggy down 0.21 pp to 7.30%, Zomato down 0.97 pp to 6.08%. Burger and pizza together account for most of Zomato's losses among classifiable cuisines in Q1 2026. Burger and QSR orders on Zomato had a median basket of INR 366 in Q1 2026, the highest of any cuisine on the platform. Pizza sat at INR 324, second highest. The two categories losing the most share on Zomato are also its two highest-AOV cuisines.
Biryani gained 0.64 pp on Swiggy to reach 8.37% of orders, the largest single-cuisine gain on the platform. On Zomato it was essentially flat at 6.87%, up just 0.11 pp. Median order value for biryani was INR 290 on Swiggy and INR 289 on Zomato, nearly identical. Thali and home meals grew 0.59 pp on Swiggy to 2.31%, the second-largest cuisine gain on the platform. Median basket there was INR 225, the lowest of any classifiable cuisine. Biryani and thali together drove most of Swiggy's Q1 2026 cuisine share movement, at opposite ends of the price range.
Mexican and Tex-Mex grew on both platforms. Swiggy moved from 0.82% to 1.13%, Zomato from 0.62% to 0.80%. The base is small but the direction is consistent across both. Zomato's median AOV for Mexican and Tex-Mex was INR 362, second only to Burger and QSR, making it the highest-spending growth cuisine in the classifiable dataset. Cafe and beverages also gained on both, up 0.37 pp on Zomato to 4.80% and 0.12 pp on Swiggy to 4.47%. Chinese contracted slightly on both, 0.21 pp on Swiggy and 0.20 pp on Zomato, a consistent cross-platform compression.
Swiggy and Zomato are not the same market for Burger and QSR in Q1 2026. Swiggy held and grew the category. Zomato shed more than a full percentage point of it. For a QSR operator with presence on both platforms, the channel strategy for this category is not the same on each side.
