Food delivery apps have become an essential part of urban living. Whether it’s a last-minute dinner or a midweek indulgence, platforms like Swiggy and Zomato are where people turn when hunger strikes.
At Vumonic Datalabs, we analyzed real transaction data from our e-receipt panel for the month of April to understand where consumers are spending more — and how that varies between the two leading platforms.
We listed down the top 10 selling restaurants on the basis of volume, and compared their Net Average Order Value (AOV) between Swiggy and Zomato
Zomato Edges Ahead in Average Spend
Across the board, we noticed that average order values were higher on Zomato than on Swiggy for nearly every top restaurant.
Here are a few examples:
At KFC, the net average Zomato order was ₹519, compared to ₹495 on Swiggy.
Domino's Pizza averaged ₹499 on Zomato and ₹458 on Swiggy.
Even for more affordable options like Faasos, Zomato orders were higher at ₹339, compared to ₹270 on Swiggy.
This could reflect differences in promotions, delivery charges, menu bundling, or simply platform demographics.
What People Are Ordering
While we're not assigning a "most ordered" title here, some clear favorites emerged in our dataset. Fast food chains like McDonald’s, Burger King, and Subway featured prominently. Pizza chains were particularly strong—Dominos, Pizza Hut, and La Pino’z Pizza all showed up in the top tier.
Interestingly, NIC Ice Creams and Mehfil also made the cut, showing that both indulgent desserts and local cuisine have carved out loyal customer bases on delivery platforms.

Final Thoughts
Even in a competitive space like food delivery, small differences in how people spend can say a lot. Swiggy and Zomato offer similar menus, but how consumers use each platform — and what they’re willing to pay — tells its own story. For brands and marketers, these nuances matter.
The bottom line: If your data isn’t rooted in real purchases, you’re building strategies on quicksand. Contact Vumonic to explore e-receipt data!
