In 2015, Vidit Aatrey and Sanjeev Barnwal wanted to disrupt unbranded and unstructured commerce by moving it to online. Boom, Meesho was born. In September of 2021, they raised $570M at ~$5B valuation. Nice.
Being naturally curious (and nosey, and data-driven) as we are here at Vumonic, we started interrogating the Meesho data. Lo and behold, the growth is amazing – 60% growth over the year.
Interestingly -- unlike the large market places who are more Tier 1 & 2 centric -- majority of Meesho’s orders were fulfilled in Tier 3 cities (~70%, to be exact).
The average Meesho order a is about 1 to 1.3 items per order for Rs. 414. These are pretty favorable unit economics, especially given the growth and all.
Meesho is doing everything right! –
– creating great work environment with work from anywhere policy
– curating the seller ecosystem beyond the upper tier cities
– getting highly engaged audience (Average 2.5 transactions per user per year)
