Electronic & Mobiles: Platform Preference by Tiers
According to estimates, Indian e-commerce will reach US$112 Billion in GMV by FY25, growing at a 29% CAGR over FY20-25E. As per Vumonic Datalab’s intelligence, nearly 50% value is generated by Mobiles & Electronics category.
It is now fairly well established that the growth in transaction volumes is coming from Tier 2 & 3 cities. Infact for the Electronics and Mobiles category, the transaction volume in Tier 2 & 3 markets is more than twice the volume from Tier 1 cities.
Value-wise, Online Electronic and Mobile sales is the largest contributor to overall ecommerce value sales. We analysed more than 60K Electronic and Mobiles items sold on these platforms from the period of April to Sept 2021 and it is interesting to note that Flipkart has pressed on advantage in lower tier markets compared to Amazon.
Flipkart has gained strategic advantage in lower tier markets with higher marketing spends, addressing payments and logistic requirements and by offering better discounts.
